Event Description: First Work: The Ontario Association of Youth Employment Centres holds a conference each year for the youth employment preparation community from Ontario and across Canada.
2. Youth Work: The conference focuses on the people and organizations that work with youth, particularly at-risk youth. We recognize that youth work is incredibly challenging; workshops will reflect this reality by providing information useful to real-world youth practitioners.

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to Time Management is Scheduling. I can’t stress how important it is to schedule your time. Without scheduling, you will find that you will very easily get distracted and then realize that by the end of the day, you have accomplished much less than you needed to. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

Don’t limit your scheduling to business activities

Schedule the priorities earlier in the week

Schedule the important tasks during your prime time

Don’t over schedule – don’t schedule more than 75% of your day

Use a paper-based or electronic calendar

Make sure you synchronize your smart phone with your online calendar daily

Place deadlines on all appointments and meetings

Plan appointments back-to-back

Schedule tasks to be completed ahead of the deadline date

Allow more time than you think the job will take

Batch like activities and routine work like:

Checking voicemail

Returning Phone Calls

Reading and responding to e-mail

Dealing with regular mail

Social media

Group appointments in similar geographic areas

Above all, Schedule time for you

Plan for tomorrow – today!

Have your calendar accessible at all times!

Good luck! Actually if you have followed some of these ideas you won’t need good luck - you will be very impressed with yourself at how much you get done.

There is no shortage of discussions about Twitter, which is ironic, as each “Tweet” is at most 140 characters, the length of this sentence.

Yet most people wonder how – and even why – this so-called phenomenon is being used. Is there an ROI? Who has the time? (another 140 characters)

If you are just getting into Twitter – or have been using it without much success – consider these eight different Micro-blogging strategies: (another 140)

1. Time-waster: You have followed others who provide a steady stream of low-value information, but which you find fascinating. And in turn, you provide your followers the minute details of whatever happens to be on your mind.

2. Lurker: In this strategy, you are a consumer of information. You have followed a number of people (friends, family, colleagues, and a few experts), and they provide you with intelligence relevant to your work and personal life. You rarely Tweet yourself.

Lunchinars Welcomes Naomi Tickle to our Platinum Speaker Line-Up

Naomi Tickle is a world renowned speaker and career consultant. She has appeared on CNN, NBC, BBC and numerous radio shows world-wide. She has been featured in major newspapers and magazines in England and the United States.

Naomi helps people find a career that ignites their passion. They have found her insights to be extremely valuable, validating much of what they already know. Naomi sees this approach to understanding human behaviour as another tool we can use to bring balance into our lives. It often answers the question we ask ourselves “Who am I? What is my life’s purpose?”

Naomi’s workshops have been presented at Norwich University, IBM, ATT, National Semiconductor and a variety of organizations with diverse interests. Naomi has authored several books including “You Can Read a Face Like a Book”, and “Closing the Sale”. These books are used as tools for sales, communications, understanding children, relationships, customer service, team building, career guidance and personal development. Naomi’s latest book has just been released – “What Makes People Tick and Why. The Answers are in the Face”. This book explains how face reading works.

“You Can Read A Face Like A Book” discusses sixty eight different traits in detail; how to recognize the trait and what it indicates. All of the traits included in the book have been well researched and are at least 92% and higher accuracy. The book is a great tool for understanding people both at work and home.

“Closing the Sale” is an ideal book for sales or marketing professionals. There are photographs and sketches that show the trait on one page. On the page opposite there is a brief outline on what the trait indicates and how to approach your customer. The bullet point style makes the information easier to access and understand.

My recent trip to India has once again sensitized me to an assumption that writers and speakers too often make: that everyone understands what you mean to say.

Test yourself – what do the following three words mean? Flyover, Subway, and Removalist.

If you are in India, a Flyover is a local bridge that “flies over local traffic”; elsewhere, it has something to do with airplanes. In much of the world, a Subway is a road or pedestrian path that goes underneath another road; in Toronto a Subway refers to the Metro. In Australia, a Removalist is someone who transports your possessions when you move houses; elsewhere this person is called a house mover.

When the mother tongue of the audience isn’t English, the problem intensifies further.
With all of the fluff being written on the topic, it isn’t surprising that finding a list to help executives make better decisions is tough. Based on our experience advising clients, here is my contribution, with questions in no particular order:

1. What are the competitors doing?

2. What evidence do you have that the competitors are actually successful?

3. Have they already taken advantage of a first mover advantage?

4. How have they organized the implementation – internal/external mix?

5. Who has organized the implementation – consulting firm, ad agency, third world workers, etc. – and why this way?

We all read faces from the moment we meet someone, we get a sense about who that person is. Over the years we subconsciously record these patterns and when we see someone’s face it triggers off a connection or memory we have noticed in the past. Face Pattern Recognition, which is the relationship between the facial structure and personality, provides us with a tool that helps us to better understand people we meet. Our face is the GPS to our inner blue print.

Face Pattern Recognition (formerly known as Personology) has been well researched over the years. It is a more scientific approach that studies the relationship between the facial structure and personality. In other words the shape of the face is the template to our inner blue print, which indicates our innate strengths and challenges. Many of these features or abilities can be seen at the time of birth, such as writing, music, design, detail, perfectionist, controller, etc.

As we go through life we are exposed to many different situations. We also experience non-supportive remarks such as “You’ll never be any good at that.” or “What do you want to do that for?” And in many cases children can be so criticized by well-meaning parents and teachers, that it can put their life on hold. Never good enough! In adulthood, Face Pattern Recognition can revive these abandoned dreams by finding that the key talents, personality and behavior traits that drove you as a child to be on stage, or the love of sports and music for example, are of course the very same ones you have now.

Edward Jones, who was a judge in the Los Angeles court district, founded the system we use today for reading faces. Jones along with a group of men from various backgrounds, researched each trait until they came up 68 traits with an 88% accuracy. Today we look at 91 traits. The Career/Personality Assessments can be made successfully from photographs or in person. It is a great tool for career assessments, sales, communications, human resource, teaching, counseling and team building. It helps us to immediately identify how to communicate and understand the people we meet with. It is the most accurate system for reading faces used today.

If we were to go on a 500 mile road trip without a map, we might well get lost on the way. We are given all sorts of directions on the best road to take and it seems to take for ever to get there. However with a map, we can take those side trips. The map then acts as a reminder of how to get back on track. It is the same with Face Pattern Recognition. It reconnects us with what it is we were born to do and enjoy. Today with so many students leaving school with degree in hand that despite all the tests they have taken, they are still lost. Face Pattern Recognition could helps students and adults helps to validate much of what they know and gives them the confidence to take that first step.

“Choosing a Social Media Speaker” – Article by Randall Craig

Quite unfortunately, there is no shortage of people who claim to be experts in Social Media. How do you choose the best one for your conference, meeting, or webcast? The best way is to ask some questions – here are seven to get you started:

Seven questions for hiring a Social Media Speaker:

1) How much do you really know about Social Media? A tough question, but if the answer is ‘read all of my books and here are example consulting clients’, then the person is probably an expert. If the clients are just “speaking” clients, then they probably don’t have much depth. (Feel free to read all three of my books: one for professionals, one for associations/not-for-profits, and the latest for businesses. I’d be happy to list my social media consulting clients as well.) Click here to view the rest of this article.
“Social Media For Event Planners” – Article by Randall Craig

Filling seats and delivering value without wasting your time.

Today’s conventional wisdom is that if you’re not Twittering, YouTubing, Facebooking, and LinkingIn your annual conference, you’ve missed the boat. While this is for the most part true, the excitement of using the new tools can get in the way of applying them productively. In this article, we review practical ways to use social media for your event—planning it, promoting it, delivering it and after it’s over. Click here to request the rest of this article.

If you’re just getting started at Public Speaking, here are a few recommendations to make your road a little smoother.

1. Start small
Do not try to speak in front of large audiences until you’ve had some experience. Otherwise, you could short-circuit your growth and hinder your chances for referrals. Test your comfort level by speaking locally as much as possible. As your confidence grows, extend your reach into neighboring cities or states. Building a national platform usually takes two to five years. So, set realistic expectations for yourself.

Start off speaking for free until you’ve proven your value and expertise. Raise your fees as your value grows. When leaders are convinced that you can create positive results, your fees are usually less of a concern. However, expect some fee resistance at least 20% of the time. If leaders rarely complain about your fees, then you’re not charging enough.

2. Pick up other speaker’s “crumbs”
As intermediate and advanced speakers get busy, sometimes they can’t take all of the event requests they receive. So, try to build a close relationship with one or two speakers just above your level. Don’t pursue them solely to get bookings. Seek to learn as much as you can from them. Watch what works and learn from their mistakes.

Tell these speakers that you’re available to cover for them or take events they don’t want. Offer to return the favor by assisting their organization or helping promote their book. For instance, you could help run their resource table, handle some their office work, write an article for their newsletter, or baby-sit their kids while they’re out speaking. Position yourself as a partner, and you might create an extra source of new bookings.

3. Create “piggyback” events
If you’re new to speaking and enjoy traveling, you can boost your experience by adding-on events to your current bookings. For example, imagine you’ll be speaking in Atlanta, Georgia six months from now. Spend a day researching and calling other organizations that could also use your value during your visit.

Contact the leader and say, “I’m already booked to speak in your area on this date. Would you have an opportunity for me to address your group, too?” Sometimes, your current booking can provide enough credibility for the secondary leader to book you on short notice. However, don’t accept a piggyback event that could cannibalize attendance at your primary event. That would be unprofessional. And, don’t discount your speaking fees for add-on events. Instead, offer to split the travel expenses with the original organization and make everybody happy.
